Cookie Policy

The short version: regular visitors don’t get any cookies from us. Here are the full details.

Last updated

This Cookie Policy explains how TheWikiFeet uses cookies and similar technologies on thewikifeet.com, and what happens when you follow a link to another website. Please read it alongside our Privacy Policy.

In short

  • We don’t use analytics, advertising, tracking or social media cookies.
  • The only cookie we set, twf_admin, is strictly necessary and is used only when site administrators sign in.
  • If you click through to InstaFeet, InstaFeet may set its own cookies, including to attribute your referral.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. They let the site remember information between page views, for example that you are signed in. First-party cookies are set by the website you are visiting; third-party cookies are set by other domains. Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser, while persistent cookies last for a set period.

Cookies we use

We set exactly one cookie, and only for site administrators:

NamePurposeDurationType
twf_adminKeeps an authorized administrator signed in to the site’s admin area and protects it from unauthorized access. It is httpOnly, so scripts on the page can’t read it.7 daysStrictly necessary (first-party)

If you are a regular visitor reading our reviews, guides and blog posts, you won’t receive this cookie or any other cookie from us. We also don’t use web beacons, tracking pixels or browser fingerprinting.

Websites commonly use four broad categories of cookies. Here is where TheWikiFeet stands on each:

  • Strictly necessary: used, but only for the administrator sign-in described above.
  • Functional or preference cookies: not used. The site works the same for every visitor without remembering personal settings in cookies.
  • Analytics or performance cookies: not used. We don’t run third-party analytics.
  • Advertising or targeting cookies: not used. We don’t show ads, build interest profiles or allow ad networks to track you on our pages.

Privacy laws such as the EU and UK ePrivacy rules require consent for non-essential cookies but exempt cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service the user has requested. Our only cookie falls into that category and is used solely by administrators, so we don’t need to ask visitors for cookie consent. If we ever introduce analytics or other non-essential cookies, we will update this policy and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

Third-party cookies after you leave our site

Our pages contain links to other websites, most notably InstaFeet. Clicking those links takes you off TheWikiFeet. We don’t place third-party cookies on our own pages, but once you arrive on another website, that website may set its own cookies.

In particular, InstaFeet, or the affiliate program it uses, may set cookies to record that you were referred by us so it can attribute any sign-up, as explained in our Affiliate Disclosure. Those cookies are controlled by InstaFeet and governed by its own privacy and cookie policies, not ours.

How to control cookies

You can view, block and delete cookies through your browser settings, including blocking all cookies or only third-party cookies. Your browser’s help pages explain how:

Blocking cookies won’t affect your ability to read TheWikiFeet. Only the admin sign-in needs a cookie, so administrators who block cookies won’t be able to stay signed in. To limit cookies set by InstaFeet, you can block or clear third-party cookies, use your browser’s private browsing mode, or manage your preferences on InstaFeet’s own website.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use cookies, for example by adding analytics, we’ll update this policy and the “Last updated” date before the change takes effect, and we’ll ask for consent where required.
